At III. The international conference AMBIS discussed public finances in the European context

Local Public Finance and Financial Management: The European Perspective was the theme of this year's international conference, which was held on 22 November in the meeting room of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports under the auspices of the Ministry of Regional Development ČR. For the third time, the University of Regional Development and the Banking Institute - AMBIS, as invited experts and the general public to a joint discussion within the cycle Fiscal Dialogue.


The conference was opened by the Rector of the University of Regional Development and the Banking Institute - AMBIS, a. s. Martina Mannová and Marie Zezůlková, Director of the Regional Policy Department of the Ministry for Regional Development of the Czech Republic.

In the first morning block Milan Jílek addressed the issue of fiscal federalism and its connection with the secessionist tendencies in Europe. Peter Pisár, lecturer at Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, then stressed the importance of local and regional governments in promoting innovation, and gave examples from Slovakia.


The topic of participatory budgeting elaborated at the University of Dubrovnik in Croatia was presented by Meri Šuman-Tolić. Juraj Nemec, together with Markéta Šumpíková, spoke about outsourcing of public contracts at the level of municipalities and shared the results of their own research.

In the afternoon block Lucie Sedmihradská wondered whether fiscal federalism is a combined or complicated model for our country. Finally, Milan Jan Puček discussed the advantages and disadvantages of a large number of small municipalities in our country in terms of public finance, including the publication of the results of a risk analysis prepared specifically for Ústí nad Labem.

Every presentation was followed by a discussion that resonated the interest of the conference visitors in the lectures presented, and together with the participation of representatives of the student community, underlined the actuality of the topics discussed.
